Dr. Marcus A. Chanay, Vice President for Student Life at Jackson State University, was part of a national panel during the 42nd Annual Legislative Conference held in Washington, D.C., on September 19-22, 2012. The panel was entitled, “The High School Class of 2013: Anti-Hazing. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D) of Florida, in conjunction with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. presented a discussion on how to eliminate the culture of hazing. Dr. Chanay along with the Presidents of Clark Atlanta University, Alcorn State University, Florida Memorial University and Bishop State Community College were members of the panel. Also, Presidents and/or National Executive Directors of the Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. were on the panel.

During the panel discussion, there were personal testimonies of the families of Robert Champion and Harrison Kowiak. The purpose of the forum was to discuss measures to eradicate this sometimes deadly ritual.
