Sigmas Waging War Against Cancer

In partnership with the:

PROGRAM GOAL

To involve Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in a collective effort to raise awareness and funds for the ongoing research into potential cures for cancer. All revenues from this national campaign will be donated to the American Cancer Society. This is a real partnership where our two organizations are truly working together. The American Cancer society has vowed to give us full support for this program. They will help us with everything from presentations, to volunteers, to brochures, and speakers for our SWWAC events. On the international level,   this program falls under Social Action.

PROGRAMMATIC THRUST

Members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and friends are asked to support Project SWWAC in four ways:

  1. Each chapter, alumni and collegiate, are asked to set $150.00 as a minimum yearly contribution to the campaign. These funds can be appropriated in the chapters annual budget or generated through fund raising activities. The chapter who makes the largest contribution will receive a plaque, and national recognition.
  2. Each brother/supporter is asked to contribute a minimum of $10.00 annually to the campaign. The individual contributions would be over and above the chapter's commitment. The brother who makes the largest contribution will receive a plaque, national recognition, paid Conclave Expenses.
  3. Each year chapters are encouraged to sponsor a cancer awareness program. These programs would include an educational component as well as screening opportunities.
  4. Each year, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will make a presentation to the American Cancer Society. Funds for the presentation will be generated through the opportunities outlined above. Note: All funds raised will be submitted to the National Treasurer at the International Headquarters.
  5. The state in the Southern Region with the largest amount raised and the most activity will receive national recognition and a plaque to be awarded to that state's executive board.

Brothers would collect pledges to create a team to walk for 24 hours around a track with thousands of other volunteers!

Cancer Control--Cancer Awareness Seminars & Screenings. If you want to do a cancer control event for your chapter or school, please call your American Cancer Society state contact.

Coaches vs. Cancer--College Coaches & Team Members hold various fundraisers. Good for collegiate chapters.

Advocacy--Brothers and chapters can e-mail, call, or write local government representatives concerning cancer legislation in your area.

More Cancer Information-- More information for your presentations.
